Dr. Ahmed grew up in Springfield, Virginia. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from Old Dominion University, he earned his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. He then completed his Internal Medicine Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was active on the Housestaff Council and received the Residency Teaching Award for excellence in teaching. Dr. Ahmed went on to complete his Gastroenterology Fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC where he served as Chief Fellow. After completion of fellowship in 2009, he practiced as a staff physician and solo Gastroenterologist for 5 years at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in North Carolina. Dr. Ahmed is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and colorectal cancer screening and surveillance. He is active in several national societies. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, spending time with his wife and three daughters, and watching the Washington Capitals and Redskins.
